5 Food Ingredients to STAY AWAY FROM!


Checking labels is super simple and easy if you know what to look for. Below are the 5 toxic ingredients that you should stay away from, and might be surprised where they are hidden in foods and drinks.  I could go on and on with toxic ingredients, but I wanted to stick with these specifics for food.







1. High Fructose Corn Syrup

Found in many foods and drinks, especially juice, soda, breads and sweets

According to Dr. Hyman this is the most toxic substance out there that is Genetically modified, causes obesity, contains traces of mercury, destroys gut health, and causes the body to crave sugar even more!



2. BPA (Bis phenol-A)

Found in Canned Food and Drinks (as well as plastics, even shower curtain liners)

The worst being Canned tomatoes. The acid from the tomatoes leach the entire amount of toxins out of the can. Make sure to always buy BPA-Free cans (I will talk about in another post)



3. Natural Flavors & Artificial Flavors/Dyes

Found in so many foods and drinks! 

I like to say that Gasoline is "natural." Meaning anything that comes from natural substances companies can use, so you might have no idea what it is. Of course artificial is a no-brainer. Food coloring has actually been linked to autism and ADHD, so get the kiddos off those dyes. There is no need for a cupcake to be green, or blue, or red. Hope about just cupcake color?!



4. Carageeanan

Found in many milk substitutes like Almond and Coconut milk products, cottage cheese, deli meats and some flavored coconut water.


Sometimes we can't win! We are trying to be healthy and the industry puts another toxic ingredient in the food. This substance greatly affects the health of your thyroid. Some brands that do not have this toxin is Wegman's brand almond milk, Whole Food 365, some Organic Valley and Trader Joe's Brands).



5. Pesticides And GMO's (Genetically Modified Ingredients)

Look For Common Genetically modified foods: High Fructose corn Syrup, Aspartame, Corn, Soy, Wheat, Canola Oil, Peanuts, Zucchini, Yellow Summer Squash, Sugar Beets, Baby Foods, Mini Watermelons, Papaya, Alfalfa, Cotton, and many many more! Buy these organic or from a local farm.

Additional #6 MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) They are highly toxic that is found in Chinese foods, soups, and anything that needs a salty taste. These are starting to be removed from foods due to high toxicity...which is great!

Detox Drink [Tracy's Tips n Treats]

While I prepare for my 10 Day Easy Detox for Busy People Online Program in October I will

be sharing many of my favorite detox resources.


Great Detox Drink!





Great for gut issues, allergies, weight issues, diabetes, & immune boost.


Ingredients:


- 2 tbls Apple Cider Vinegar (Bragg’s is best)
- 1 tbls Lemon Juice (not from concentrate)
- Pinch of Ground Cinnamon
- Pinch of Ground Cayenne Pepper
- 1 tbls Local Honey (raw is best)



Directions:

 
- Mix all ingredients with 1 cup water.



-Drink in the morning OR 5-10 minutes before each meal to prepare your gut to digest and break down food better.

Five Best Detoxifying Foods [Tracy's Tips n Treats]

While I prepare for my 10 Day Easy Detox for Busy People Online Program in October I will
be sharing many of my favorite detox resources.

Below are the Five Best Detoxing Foods that you can find at your local health food store.


1. Milk Thistle (protect liver and eliminate toxins)

What to Buy: Go out and get the supplement at the health food store and take the dosage listed on back of bottle. **Always check with your physician if you decide to take herbs if you are on medications**



2. Probiotics (good bacteria. 80% immune system is in our gut)

What to Buy: Go out and try some keifer, raw sauerkraut, kimchi or organic yogurt. These foods have natural probiotics. Make sure they are raw though. So, that would not be sauerkraut in the bag or can.



3. Turmeric (top anti-inflammatory and protect against free radicals that can cause disease and cancer). This is the most widely studied herb today.

What to Buy: Go out to eat at your local Indian restaurant or just find encapsulated at health food stores. **Always check with your physician if you decide to take herbs if you are on medications**


4. Seaweed (best is chlorella. Second best spirulina. Pulls out heavy metal and radiation).

What to Buy: If you don;t like to seaweed taste (you can go out any buy nori) just get some greens powder and add to a smoothie or 100% pure juice (apple or orange not preferred)



5. Apple cider vinegar (acidic acid and loaded with enzymes. Support healthy bacteria and pulls out toxins)

What to Buy: Braggs is my favorite and I take 1 tablespoon in 6 ounces of water every morning to help with gut health.



6. Leafy Greens (cilantro best. Support against heavy metals and support liver. Some other good ones are cucumbers and parsley.

What to Buy: I like to fresh greens over the dried or powdered, but please make sure you get these in daily. Kale and Spinach are on the Dirty Dozen, so make sure you buy local or organic. Consume a variety of greens throughout the week.

Date Walnut Truffles [Tracy's Tips n Treats]

Ingredients: 


- 1 cup chopped walnuts, roasted
- 8-10 Mejool Dates
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup shredded coconut



Directions:

1. Preheat over 350 degrees
2. Place the raw walnuts in roasting pan and roast for 10-12 minutes.
3. Pulse walnuts in food processor until finely minced.
4. Add the dates into food processor and pulse a few times.
5. Take out and roll into balls in coconut. Chill until ready.

Five Foods that act like drugs [Tracy's Tips n Treats]

 

Listed below are specific foods that create similar reactions in the brain or destroy the body like medicinal and recreational drugs. Finding natural alternatives is the key. I never recommend cold turkey or deprivation techniques. See what tips work for you and share on this blog or my Facebook page



Food #1 Sugar

This is the biggest one known. Sugar is 8x more addictive that cocaine! It is also hidden in many foods and drinks. This little white stuff has a huge impact on the body.

Try Instead: Wean off of sugar with berries as food and infuse into water for a sweet drink. Eat more protein to help with the sugar cravings (see below for healthy protein sources).



Food #2 Wheat

There is a protein in wheat that has been found to have an opiate activity. Wheat in this country is heavy processed, genetically modified and dangerous to your gut health as well.

Try Instead: Wheat is a form of gluten. Easiest way is just try some many gluten free options. Make sure they are still healthy and have organic corn in them. I prefer items that do not have soy for women.







Food #3  Dairy

Americans over consume dairy in this country, especially cheese. According to Mind Body Green "the desire for cheese can be blocked by the same medicines used to reverse drug overdose in emergency rooms."

Try Instead: There are many dairy alternatives out there now. I prefer Almond Milk. Many types out there also have a toxin in them called carrageenan. Try Whole Foods 365 or Wegman's brand.



Food #4 Meat

The blood in meat have been studied to block opiate receptors. In addition to the hormones, antibiotics, heavy metals and other awful stuff many meats have in them we are decreasing our ph of our body. 

Try Instead: Plant based protein sources are tempeh, beans, eggs (organic), leafy greens, and some nuts. If you still want to eat meat PLEASE buy organic.



Food #5 Artificial Sweeteners


Most people think "sugar free" is the best alternative to regular sugar. Unfortunately artificial sweeteners are even worse than regular sugar. They make you crave the sweet stuff even more than regular sugar. Cravings for sugar and artificial sweeteners can even be stronger cravings than street drugs and pain killers.

Try Instead: Coconut Nectar is my favorite. Check out this blog for many Paleo (naturally sugar free) recipes. Stevia is also another option. Several Stevia brands have dangerous additives in it, so please check out the brand Sweet Leaf. You can also try berries ;)
