Tracy's Great Guacamole [Tracy's Tips n Treats]

My absolute favorite dip! Try to chopping the ingredients bigger for a chunkier version of this amazing nutritious dish. Avocados are a GREAT fat source for metabolism and many of the other ingredients are GREAT for your liver.

Ingredients

- 2 medium sized avocados
- 1 handful fresh cilantro (cleaned and chopped)
- 1 very small red onion (or 1/2 small/medium)
- 1 small tomato
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1/2 fresh lime juice
- Salt (to taste)
-  1/2-1 teaspoon cumin

Directions

1. Cut up avocados and put into a bowl.
2. Add cleaned and chopped cilantro (It is best to let it air dry before you try to chop).
3. Add onion, tomato and garlic
4. Gradually add salt, cumin, and lime juice and stop adding when it tastes good to you
5. Store in the fridge (with the avocado pit in it to keep fresh) for at least an hour

--> Guacamole with last 1-2 days. You can help the freshness by putting the pit in it and also squirting a bit of lemon juice. The less air that gets to it the less likely it will brown.

--> Add to your favorite burger or just eat with your favorite chips! See my Paleo Tortilla Chips post for Paleo style chips.

Five Foods For Your Liver and Livelihood [Tracy's Tips n Treats]

According to Andrea Nakayama of Replenish and Holistic m. Nutrition Lab: "Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common liver conditions around the globe. It most affects those who are obese and/or have Type II Diabetes or insulin resistance. Yet the person with a fatty liver doesn't need to appear to be overweight."

The liver does a HUGE job for our bodies everyday. It's functions include:

- Bile conductor (helps you digest fats)
- Processes all nutrients
- Balances hormones
- Metabolizes carbohydrates
- Filters your blood of toxins

With that being said, our liver is something we should ALL take care of. Studies are showing more and more that the foods we are eating are doing as much damage to this vital organ as a excessive alcoholic. So, it doesn't matter if your "poison" is whiskey or a cupcake, both are taxing to your liver.

As Nakayama states: "Caring for your liver requires some key components including:
- Boosting vegetable and low-glycemic fruit intake.
- Increasing fiber and decreasing refined carbohydrate consumption.

Below are my TOP FIVE Foods to support and cleanse the liver (For even more information check out my grocery shopping blog to see how to shop for, store and eat these foods):

1. Cilantro
This food is fantastic for so many reasons, but mostly it helps to pull heavy metals out of the body.
Eat it Up: Try in your favorite guacamole. Don't like the taste? Then throw a handful into a smoothie to still get the super benefits.

2. Onions
These are the "sponge" of foods. Onions have the ability to suck up all the yucky toxins in your liver. Don't believe me? Put an onion by a stinky pair of shoes over night. In the morning smell that bad boy. It prolly stinks just like those icky sneaks.
Eat it Up: With this food being so versatile, it should be easy to eat onions every day. I love to sauté and eat them raw.

3. Garlic
This food may leave you smelling just like it. If it has the ability to come out your pores just imagine all the cleaning it's doing in your body though.
Eat it Up: Again, garlic is so versatile, and used in so many foods it's doesn't require you to get creative. Sauté or eat raw every chance you get.

4. Red Peppers
The color of the pepper actually does mean something. The red color contains vital nutrients to the body hat support you liver function.
Eat it up: I love to slice up a red pepper and use to dip into some roasted red pepper hummus for a snack. Adding to your favorite stir fry is another way to truly enjoy red peppers.

5. Grapefruit (preferably red/pink)
This is my FAVORITE citrus food. The darker the color of the grape hurt the more liver supporting nutrients. It makes for a great snack, especially on a hot day.
Eat it Up: Either slice in half and enjoy with a spoon, or cut up slices and put in your water for a refreshing drink on a hot day. I like to add a little mint in the water too ;)

Eating these foods throughout the week or some, like cilantro, onions and garlic daily, can truly help heal and support your liver and your life.

And no need to worry. Nakayama states: "For most of us (and unless disease state is quite progressed), the liver is wildly regenerative. It heals better than most organs in the body"!

Take it into Action:
Good news for all to hear! Which foods are you going to commit to eating this week? Any fun recipe you want to share with all? Post here or come on over to my facebook page and let me know!

Five Steps To Handle Toxic People [Tracy's Tips n Treats]

It's not too late to grab your spot in my 10-Day Easy Detox For Busy People. LAST DAY for my blog readers is Tuesday April 21st Yes, that's you ;)

Join me and many other Kick A#@ People that are ready to up-level their health with More Energy and Less Weight to rock that Summer Body and Mind! http://www.tracystotalwellness.com/10-day-detox

Five Steps To Handle Toxic People [Tracy's Tips n Treats]

Could people be as toxic to you as chemicals and poisons?!?!

Yes they can! If you have been around me long enough you have probably heard about what I like to call "Energy Suckers." I like to call these people the ones that suck your positive energy right out of you, consciously or unconsciously hoping to fill their own voids. After reading a GREAT article by Travis Bradberry called 12 Ways Successful People Handle ToxicPeople, I wanted to share my take on this subject.

Bradberry states: “Recent research from the Department of Biological and Clinical Psychology at Friedrich Schiller University in Germany found that exposure to stimuli that cause strong negative emotions—the same kind of exposure you get when dealing with toxic people—caused subjects’ brains to have a massive stress response. Whether it’s negativity, cruelty, the victim syndrome, or just plain craziness, toxic people drive your brain into a stressed-out state that should be avoided at all costs.”

I have been in the midst of launching my 10-Day Easy Detox For Busy People Online Program. Of course this program focuses alot on food, BUT I also speak about people and thoughts in this program. Studies are showing more and more how influential the people you hang out with will dictate the choices you make in your life. Dr. Mark Hyman even states that people are 2x more likely to lose weight if they do it together. So, are you ready to make healthy choices over un-healthy? I like to call healthy choices those choices aligned with your values.

Below are Five Steps to Handle Those Energy Suckers in your life:

Step #1

Define Your Values

Setting Values sets your foundation. I like to create 2-3 Values with all my clients. These are things that keep your soul thriving. What gets you up in the morning? What keeps that “spark” alive? What brings a smile to your face like no other? When are you the happiest? Values are aligned with how you want to feel. My Top 3 are: Fun, Freedom, Peace

Get it Done: What are your top 2-3 values? I recommend looking up the meaning of the word in the dictionary to make sure you know exactly what it means, as well as, how it feels in your body.

Step #2

Set Boundaries

This is my equation I use with clients for Setting Boundaries:

1. Define what behavior of another is triggering you.

2. Define why this behavior is causing you harm/discomfort/stress

3. Define the consequence that will happen if the other engages in this behavior anymore.

Get it Done: Who in your life needs a good ole’ boundary? How or where can you set it up? You do not need to speak to the other to create a boundary, but sometimes it is necessary to set up a successful one.

Step #3

Focus on what you Want

We have such a habit of getting stuck in what we don’t want, that we create blinders to any solution. Using what is going wrong as feedback can help you discover a new path to what you do want.

Get it Done: Who do you think is pretty cool that you never seem to talk to, or have fun with? Maybe ask them to go out this week? They could be the hidden signs towards what you want in life.

Step #4

Have More Supportive People than toxic ones

Who are those people that you know holds sacred space for you? Or those people that build you up? Those are people that you can use as preventative care from Toxic People. The more you are with people that build you up, the less the people that break you down will affect you.

Get it Done: Create your list of supporters in your life. When things get stressful make sure you talk to one of them. I like to be in contact, somehow with a supporter every day, even if it’s a little text or watching something from them on the internet. Your supporters don’t need to be people you know personally. If someone inspires you they are supporting you. I also love just going to yoga class to fill me back up.

Step#5

Saying No.

As MarieForleo says, "Get On The No Train." If someone asks, or is doing something that is not aligned with your values, then it is your right to say No.

Get it Done: Speak your Values to Yourself EVERYDAY, so when you are approached by someone, you are grounded in your authenticity. You also have the option to say “Thank you for the offer. I need 24 hours to think about, and will get back to.”

Which Step are you going to get started with THIS WEEK? Please share in a comment, or head over to my Facebook Page and share you A’ha from this post. Let’s keep going empowering everyone to finally step into whom they really are, so they can feel more authentic and happy in their lives.

Ever wonder what diet out there could help heal many of the common health concerns today? I found just that! The “GAPS” Diet is just that.

\

The GAPS diet stands for 'Gut and Psychology Syndrome.'  It was designed by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride. According to Natural News, “Through her research, she found a strong correlation between unhealthy intestinal flora and functional brain chemistry.” This diet focuses on that brain/body connection.

According to Dr. Axe, the GAPS Diet can help:

- Repair the gut wall
- Balance Probiotics in the gut
- Stop toxins from coming in
- Help the body digest better

This in turn will:
- Boost Immunity
- Reduce Food Sensitivity
- Improve Neurological Function
- Heal Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Reverse Type II Diabetes
- Improve Lactose Digestion
- Kill Candida
- Support Detoxification
- Reduce Anxiety and Depression
- Improve Autism

The “GAPS” Diet is easy to follow eliminating:

1. Processed Foods (Things you find in a box or convenience foods)
2.  Grains
3.  Processed Sugar
4. Winter Squash and potatoes
5. Artificial chemicals
6. Conventional Meat and Dairy (Organic in moderation is okay)
